Image quality/filesizes

Postby bm_727 » Sat Mar 06, 2004 7:52 pm

I hope im not posting in this in the wrong section, but here goes nothing:

Whenever i visit the forum everyday, there are like 5-6 great quality images in each post i see :), but when i upload, i can't get 5 images at smaller than 650 wide from FS2002 without going over the 5...k limit (don't know the exact #).  I'm stumped ???

What do people do to their pics that makes them able to upload them without going over the limit?  Is it magic, my computer, or just me???

Thanks in advance!!! ;D

erm i suppose it all depends on how you have your settings in flght sim. if you then add effects to make your image clearer like sharpen then it increases the file size significantly..

make sure your images are saved in jpeg format not BMP as this makes the file size smaller by a lot.

an average 600 x 800 screenshot would be roughly 60 or 70 kb for me. using a program called multigrab helped things significantly.. try a search on google for it its free and very easy to use.

hope this helps, daz

Well, i'm saving in .jpg with the program GrabClipSave and i dont edit the pics at all...

I do have autogen and scenery complexity at dense though and the water detail and reflections are on.  However, the shots i took are in the middle of the desert, not near any water... ???

Could it just be the program i use to get the images? (multigrab or GrabClipSave)

Ok when I was using the Windows Paint program, my screens were around 100+K each when saved as Jpegs at quality setting 9 on a scale from 1-10.

What do you mean?? I use Irfanview, but all it is is an editor, right?  Should I have GrabClipSave save them as fullscreen images, (right now they're saved as 600x800) and then send them to Irfanview to resize them?

Yes.  Capture the shots as full-screen images and then open them in Irfanview to resize them to 800x600.  Then save them as jpegs.
