Ferrying a Junkers JU-52 - Part 3

Postby BFMF » Sun Feb 15, 2004 2:40 am

When the tanks were filled up, I filed a new flightplan, and at 0240Z, I taxied to the active runway, and departed Port Heiden. As soon as I climbed above the fog, I set my course for Homer (PAHO), via King Salmon (PAKN) & Iliamna (PAIL), a total of of 310 nm.

Weather was calm, with scattered clouds, and besides having to fight some winds, it went well. Soon after leaving Port Heiden, the sun started to set, and I got to watch another breathtaking Alaskan sunset. After it got dark, I was thankfull I had remembered to grab my CD/MP3 player, that and my cofee to help keep me awake.

So far, I hadn't had any luck finding some business to do while on my trip. Seems like everybody on the islands I've been too were quite content on staying where they were. I'm still hoping to find someone who needs a ride, as I could sure use someone to talk with on these long flights.

As I approached Homer, I listened to the weather station, and I was happy to hear it was mostly calm and clear, a nice change so far. After announcing my attentions, I entered the traffic pattern, and landed at 0518Z. I decided to call it a day, so after taxing to the ramp, I shut everything down and secured the aircraft for the night.
