Sam, I have the canopy opening with Shift+E, it's mapped in the game's settings as follows:
Settings/Assignments/General Aircraft Commands/Select Exit.
And to Bones: No, the shots are just 800x600, around 60k with a 470k total approx.
This Place is a local strip I designed for FS2002. I used it to fly radio models in real life, and have permission to use it for outlanding in Sailplanes, however, I never landed there in reality.
I used 3 thermal layers with different and dynamic thermal qualities for my weather. The Cloud generated by the thermal program is distinctive in shape and easily distinguishable from normal FS Clouds.
To make things interesting and more realistic, I try to hide the thermal cloud a bit by introducing a cumulus layer then adding a stratus layer just above it, using a cloudbase range of 1000' so they don't all appear too uniform. Above that goes a sprinkling of cirrus at a local jetstream height of 16,000' - 18,000'
I save the flight and get the weather reproduced when I reload the Flight to save setup time. It can be varied from there.
The thermal program is called CUMULUS!
