Are you sure thats not a P-51B, didn't the D have the bubble canopy.

I was even wondering if that was an A-36 Apache, ??? what, with the rocket tubes and bombs  :o, it looks like its loaded for ground attack, more than aerial combat ?...

Richie is right, that is a 51B, all Ds have a bubble canopy. Well spotted Richie ;)

Nice pic man.  A-36 never sereved in the ETO, and I believe it had an Allison engine, and not a Merlin.

No thats a actually a P-51C

Note the difference in canopies. The one on the top is a P-51B and the one on the bottom is a P-51C.

No, the B could be fitted with the Malcom Hood canopy.  The B and C were basicly the same, just made in different factories, I believe.

That canopy was only used a few times on the British versions if I remember correctly, but it wasn't the only one they used...
