What is your last hop? Labrador is pretty close. For the last leg, I've packed emergency beers in the compartment that the ELT was in. I figure if there is a catastrophic engine failure in the North Atlantic, I'd rather be happy than found. Just looking out for you...

Final route planned.

Fire and Ice!

I had a strangely beautiful flight from CCM4 Port au Choix to CCYA Cartwright, over heavy cloud cover and plummeting temps...

Look at that ICE! Formed on all leading surfaces and along the base of the windscreen! But hey, no worries... whatever keeps the beer cold!

Finding a route around the front...

Thanks for catching up! Should be making my leap to Greenland soon! More to come...

Leep posting those screens, and good luck. We're all counting on you. (pardon the "Airplane" reference. It is obligatory)

Thanks for joining me for the ride Speed! (his Royal Highness, Speed, of the house of Flight, Esquire)

Oh I passed my limits ages ago... I've been waiting for the Right-Honorable Mr. Brown to descend on me like a P-51 on a low n' slow Bogie... But I haven't seen the great block-head around lately.... Maybe I'll catch his attention with... the very first PEANUTS!

Wow....fantastic series, SpinDrift. We do like to try to keep the thread limit to 650kb though. Just start a new thread next time and link it to this one ;)

Thanks trooper! I've been sick for a bit, and then completely overloaded with work for the last two weeks or so... will have to make that flight to Greenland sometime soon!

Thanks gents! The Vans has some nice weather effects indeed... one of the reasons I chose it for this flight!

I'll be up and flying again soon, (most likely tonight!)

On the Way to Greenland...

Open this in a new tab: http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=pl ... 2Q8gNoRlf0

Finally! Been grounded with a cold and ri-donk-ulously overloaded with work recently, but I did finish my clean repaint for release! http://simviation.com/1/search?submit=1 ... 5w&x=0&y=0

And I managed to garner some "sponsors and supporters" for my leap of faith to the frozen waste! Hopped from CCYA Cartwright to CYDP Nain, then topped off my tanks and tipped my cane to the longest leg so far, all the way over water... all the way over to Greenland...

Image

Hey, what's with all the names?

Image

Albatross wings lend me a bit more confidence for this 4+ hour leg......

Image

So I made a strong start out, wind at my back and low clouds ahead, so I (foolishly) decided to ride OVER said cloud front... :naughty:
Before I could say bobs-your-uncle I had a 20kt headwind and the weather had pushed me up over 12,000ft! Alternate Air and Pitot Heat on almost constantly, making less than 100kts GS and down to 1/2 fuel after 2 1/2 hours! with more than 2 to go.... There's gotta be a hole somewhere................

THERE!

Image

Ice forming on the windscreen, turbulence sharp enough to set off the ELT (I installed a backup when Speed-of-Flight...wasn't looking... [read: blind drunk], no worries we still have our "Emergency Medicinal Beer")!

I dove for it... <<t

Image

Stay tuned! And don't forget to comment to get your name added to the fuselage!

p.s. - This may be the last post with pics embedded unless my appeal to the right-honorable Chuck is graciously accepted... so take it while you can!

Hi
Great thread! I look forward to reading it and hope it continues to your destination ... meanwhile in the name of keeping the size of this thread to 'sensible' - it would be great if you can continue in a new thread called 'AROUND THE WORLD # 2' (OR SIMILAR ....)

Thanks <<r

Well that's a bummer, but expected at some point surely. I'll be looking to continue our journey in another thread.

I do truly appreciate the honor of Spiritual advisor. It is my calling.

That was a pretty close one, there. Filing a VFR flight plan with a broken sky is always an adventure!

Onward! Should the need arise, maintenance has installed an emergency fuel bladder just behind the CG between the crew seats. It's a long way to Greenland, and of course they were concerned with our maximum range. No, not for fuel, silly! That's emergency beer storage! There's only room for vital necessities on this trip. Keep in mind, however, all 100 gallons must be gone before landing because of Max Landing Weight restrictions. Drink up!

Maintain radio contact.
See you up there!

Yes, Sir! Right away, sir! :handgestures-salute: '

(no more kicking at the goads for me!)

Not too bad a bummer, I pushed my limits and most other Forums admins would have just deleted me and moved on with their lives! SimV is a friendly, respectful place, and I really wouldn't want to post my flights anywhere else, so when the mighty pete rumbles... I listen!

Not to worry there, Spin! The increased diameter of the pilot and navigators' center-sectional area (due to the consumption of recreation fluid) can be used as a floatation device.
