Stormtrooper

actually, the jet engine powered Flyin Wing was called XB-49 and for the ethernal sadness of Jackie Northrop US gov cancelled his program, when he was close to his death, they revealled the "new" flyin wing which was exactly the same measures of the original (XB-49) and fly by wire tech, avoidin the bad handling that the prototype suffered durin tests, I think 2 months later, Northrop died and said for a group of close friends that he finally understood why God kept him alive for so long, just to see his high tech birdie flyn high again, this time called B-2 a real wonder!

cya!

Foo, I'm completely sure that the XB-49 was a different design from the B-2. (For example, the back of the XB-49 is a wide "V" shaped, and the B-2 is a double "W" shaped)  But I do think your right about when Jack died and the designation for the XB-35 with the jet engines.

Hi again,
Here are some pics off the web about these aircraft.
The first is the prop bomber;

The second is the YB-49 with jet engines. I remember seeing this for the first time in the old sf movie War of the Worlds.

And the last is a very nice-looking twin Northrup experimental.

Storm, was refering more to the general concept then the shape, U see?
I mean, the general concept and design was greatly created by Jackie and used few years after in order to create this amazing a/c, the B-2

the B-2 has the W shaped rear so they can hide the engine exhaust when watched from below, and to give less radar reflections (angle <=90 degrees)
