Well Hagar old chap, you may one day get the chance. The Fighter Collection are restoring an Australian built Beaufighter to airworth status ;D Sadly it's a ten year project :'( Even so, it's one Warbird restoration I am really looking forward to seeing completed.

I think I saw this on my last visit to Duxford. I'm not holding my breath as there seems a long way to go yet.

bad news, pals. i tried the CFS2 beau in 2k4. no animations,no gear, hell, even no fully detailed model!
there's a gmax beau on flightsim.com ,but it's not really good.
this means waiting until someone hears our prayers...or invents a "CFS3 to FS" model converter.

Hmmm. Let me have a punt around & see what turns up. No promises.
I won't fall into the trap of saying it's impossible but I think you will be waiting a very long time for a CFS3/FS converter. ::)

I tried the AvHistory CFS2 TFX. I think this is the one Tempest mentioned & the most likely candidate. IMHO
It's FSDS1 so the props don't display. I could live with that but it's also a typical CFS2 multi-LOD model that doesn't work well in FS9 on my system.

Sorry chaps. I think that leaves Plan B. Wait for someone to do a proper FS9 model. ::)

That's the one I was talking about. I have a feeling it's just a repaint/rehash of the older CFS2 model that you can find here in the CFS2 downloads section. I did get it working in FS2K2 but had to copy some of the texture files to the other versions to get them all to show up.

Still it does look nice in 2K2 :)

Yes there are a few. Lots of them are here at SimV but these are older models and I don't know if these will work with FS9. I have the latest AvHistory version working in 2K2 but I did have to mess around with it a bit. On the pluss side, it has no less than six versions ;D

This one is "Just down the road" (actually about 40 minutes flying time in a Warrior) --> this one is as far as i know the only DAP Mk 21 that is complete here in Australia. As for my impressions after seeing it in the flesh, all I can say is that it is BIG!!!! and one very impressive machine.

There used to be a non flying, but complete one at RAF Hendon. I don't know if it is still there?

I can remember seeing it being restored at RAF St. Athan many years ago. ;)

Paul, I'm sure that Hendon still has the Beaufighter on display and I understand they also have a Beaufort (another type we need for CFS2) on display. Ozzy visited Hendon not long ago so I'm sure he would confirm that.

I've never seen a complete Beaufighter but from looking at the Duxford restoration I agree it looks bigger that you may think, around the size of a Mosquito.

Once again, thanks for all the comments chaps, this is now my longest running topic, ever ;D

Hi Tempest

Thanks re the Museum. You mention the Beaufort, that was one of the early Frog kits that I made... ;)

Well, I loaded CFS3 (again  ::) ) on my pc to try out the Beaufighter. It is very nice, but I still can't get into the game. As Hagar has said before, I hate the zoom view. Why don't they just build a combat version based on the FS2002/2004 engine?

I'm probably wrong about this but I thought that there were no surviving complete Beauforts left. I thought that there were just a couple of fuselarges left and that was about it... But like I said. I'm probably wrong...

Mate, i know of 3 Beufort's under restoration (as far as I know these are all for airworthy status even if they do not fly) and one Beaufort on Display.

1) One DAP Beaufort was recently completed & might be (have not seen it etc) on display at the Australian War Memorial:  http://www.pacificwrecks.com/aircraft/beaufort/A9-557.html

2) I know of at least 2 in the USA, one with Kermit Weeks, the other at Chino.

Ozzy is the man to ask Woody pal because he recently visited Hendn, but I'm sure they have a Beaufort.

Why indeed ??? We had a topic recently in the CFS3 forum I think about future CFS's and I think most folk said 2K4 with guns was the way to go.

That would be soooooo sweet.
We should ask Pete to post a petition, if we could get half of the membership, around 5,000, to sign we might get Microsofts attention.

Fido  ;D  ;D

P.S.  I know, wishful thinking.
