KHOL approach

Postby Mobius » Wed Dec 01, 2004 1:26 am

I decided to try an approach into KHOL, the airport in the Arkansas hole.  Enjoy!

To avoid the walls, I had to make my approach just a smidgeon steeper than usual

Very interesting. I had a hell of a time landing (AIRWOLF) a helicopter into this airport! But when I finally made it I decided to hook the place up to be my home with the dreaded LAGO FSEnhancer2004 program.

I gotta admit the lights do make seeing the runway much more clearer at night! I will post some pics later tonight!

This place is really fun to play! It is very hard to get out of the 15,000 foot hole with a helicopter. As you find yourself always approaching stall speeds or sometimes flying too close to the walls to maintain that airspeed!

Jets are easy to fly out of this airport with! Heavies (airliners) provide a bit more challenge. That is why I use this airport as a top secret millitary base  8)! Landing however is very hard. Mobius 1 has skills! I keep hitting the walls with jets. I actually try to go in with a stalled engine and then hit the throttles to get some airspeed but always wind up with too much speed and hitting the walls because it is too narrow for my jet to turn around!

The whole thing could be fixed by simply placing a flatten switch, but where's the fun in that?  ;)

I know I promised some pics of my own of the Airport with Lago FS enhancer improvements.

But I get tied up with my Police work sometimes. So as I promised I will post some tonight!

This is part of the face lift I am doing to this airport (turning it millitary) As you can see I built a confined platform to cater for use by Airwolf.

Image

This is the airport in the pitch black of night ( note the high density lights around the compound and along the runway)

Image

as I begin my decent more lights pop up to assist with landing (note the landing pad is lighted as well). Emergency vehicles light up warning trespassers to stay away as I make my final  ;D

Now this is a close up of the pad on final

(the darkness of the pics show just how difficult a landing like this is with lighting, Just imagine how impossible it would be without the extra lighting!)  :-/

I guess the Lago Enhancer was good for something after all  :P!
