pull the extinguishers!!

Postby ruekesj » Fri May 21, 2004 10:34 pm

i've been flying IL2:FB with the Aces exspansion  for the last month or so, tinkering with the setup and TrackIR to get the most fun, realistic sim i've flown yet.  the sim is so good i've been wondering why we don't have any amenities for it on our site here at SimV. anyway here's a couple shots of a bf110 i snuck up on while out on CAP.
Image
alone on a short radius patrol
Image
i snuck in on a messerscmit 110 apparently on a recon mission
Image
i've got good tone, firing ;D
Image
Image
i just love the effects in this sim
Image
the cockpits are incredible
Image
the lighting effects are truly beautiful
Image
the airstrips are somewhat bland though
Image
but the prop dust and tire smoke make everythig that more believable
Image
the flight dynamics are so fluid, i haven't flown CFS3 since i've had it. the learning curve is steeper though.  no instant kills, it's alot harder to successfully bring down an enemy without getting killed yourself. ;D
and it works with the TrackIR and CFS3 doesn't. something M$ needs to work on to compete with IL2.

Nice shots, SimV only supports M$ products...
Quite a few of the guys here play Il2, I personally didn't get on with it v.well thought.
I might give it another try though, mind you I still love Janes WWII Fighters :)

Great shots, I never really like IL2:FB, mostly because of that stupid engine overheat thing and the damage profile, I fly it on 70% power and it still manages to overheat, and the damage is just plainly unrealistic, both the visual and the flight dynamics. I mean I was able to fly back and land a Fw-190 with out my vertical stablelizer :-/

But there are a few things I do like about the game, the prop dust, the ways the bombs fall, the cocpit damage, and the animated triggers in some planes.

Cheers

Animated triggers? LoL? Never seen that. Maybe I'm too busy looking through gunsights...;D

stormtropper, it was not uncommon at all for aircraft of WW2 to return to base missing more than just the vertical stabilizer.  and on that note , haven't you seen the show on the F-15 that landed with only one wing?
the damage model is as realistic as CFS3 if not more so.

as for engines overheating, the only time it has happenned to me is when using WEP boost.  and as well it should. run anything past the design limitations it will break.  h@ll it will break just from running.    some planes are much more sensitive to overheat though, especially the bf109 series.

Only if you fly with 110% throttle all the time. When you get the "overheat" message, just cut back to 90 or 100% for a couple of minutes and your engine temperature should be in the greens again. The 109 still has a lot of power at 100%.

...sure there were exceptions, such as the B-17, but the Fw-190 doesn't fall into the "exceptions" catagory.

If she has a skilled pilot, there's a big chance that she can make it back home. And many other planes could still fly without one vertical stabilizer, the He-111 for example, which could also return with only one elevator left.
And I clipped my vertical stabilizer in IL-2 more than once, but my 109 was always left in a controllable condition. You can't aim properly anymore, but you can certainly still fly...

Wait......if the elevators are the vertical stablizers, then what is the rudder unit called?

Exploder, your accutally good enough with that gun in in the back to clip it? I always shoot mine off ;D
