Trip to the North Pole: Leg 1

Inspired by Cherokee's "Trans Canada" adventure,I decided to make a trip to the nort pole and back with my fellow Aero Commander 680.
I hadn't flown it before (just a couple of minutes),so I could get used to this nice aircraft during the first leg. And I can tell you,it has some strange habits...

Leg 1: From Mannheim (EDFM) to Berlin (EDDF).

Sitting in front of the main terminal of EDFM,ready for taxi. Checking everything,especially the cargo: stuff for emergencies, the usual bags and food (especially coffee!):


Here we go....when will I see Mannheim again?


Climbing to my assigned altitude:


Now something very strange happened: The engines lost power after passing 10,000ft. I had to cancel my flightplan and land,in order to find out what was wrong.
Approaching the nearest airport:

Seconds before touchdown:


Down and secured,sitting somewhere in deep Hessia:


Now i had to find out what was wrong with the engines. After a few test flights ,i found out that i have to slim the mixture after passing 10,000ft.
With this newly gained knowledge, I prepared myself and my "Com" for Leg 1b: finishing the flight to Berlin.

There are reports that there is a wormhole near the north pole which transfers you to the equator after crashing.

An excelent idea to use the aerocommander! One of my favorite props.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news - but it just ain't possible!

M$ had to make compromises when they modelled the world so your lil' ole desktop PC could cope with all the calculations that are necessary to give you a fair illusion of flying across a terrain.

One of these was that in the fs virtual world, the Earth is a cylinder - it doesn't have poles at the top and bottom like that spinning globe you had on your windowsill when you were a kid.

So you can't go there! That's why people have all these weird things happening - they've been documented quite a few times. Because the prog can't do the sums it just crashes.

yes but adventurers still go on in hopes of finding the fountain of youth. This adventure might have to bent the pole just a hair

I love the Aerocommander. Still one of the best looking freeware props out there!

Alert in Canada, SP4 station and Wrangel Island in russia are somewhat closer
SP4 is as close as you can get. Landable with C-130/An-12

Interesting!  I just started a series of flights, going the opposite way . . .

I'm currently sitting just south of the South America Border, trying to "buy" another aircraft, as someone stole my Baron and then crashed just after takeoff!

Terrible ending to a great plane . . .  ;)

But anyway!  My flights will be clear around the world, as others have already circumnavigated the equator, I thought I would try the more inhospitable approach . . .

Why don't you join me?  We could meet up somewhere in the Middle East or Far East and have a grand luncheon out on the water, or something?
