737-200 Copa airlines - Leg 18

Postby Omag 2.0 » Sat Feb 14, 2004 2:36 pm

Hi all!

Quick update on my trip!Last flight: Copa airlines 737-200. We landed in Panama today, coming from Puerto Rico. The trip took us from San Juan airport to Panama city ( Tocumen airport).

Uneventfull but nice flight. Bit of an old plane, but hey, i like variation.  ;D

Taxiing at San Juan - lots of buildings around here for an airport.

Climbing away from Puerto Rico! Say Bye to the Caribean

Nice model, but strange engines, they do the trick tough

The moon at our side during this trip

First contact with South-America. Cruising over Columbia at 20.000 ft, close to a mountainrange

Approach off Tocumen airport - Panama - visual approach runway 3 left

Touchdown, spoilers up and reverse thrust!

At the gate, next to a nephew. Copa seems related to continental airlines, just compare those liveries

Very nice Omag, especially the first shot. The engines look so weird on that plane ;D ;D

:)
The engines aren't weird, it's just that normally you'd see those engines mounted on the back of the fuselage.

Those engines are one of the most popular jet engines in the history, the Pratt & Whitney JT7D, used on other airliners such as the DC-9 series, Sud-Est Aviation Caravelle etc, so place those engines under the tail of a jet and you'll get a more "normal" look of the engines

Looks familiar?

The 737 had the cigarrshaped  P&W's until the 300 series came along in 1984, when they choose the CFM56 engine with its unusual flatbottom look (because of ground clearence restrictions)

Nice pics btw Omag, I enjoy your around the world trip very much!

There is a good reason why copa and continental look similar.

Contintal owns copa airlines, so the liveries are almost exactly the same. ;D
