Shooting Star

Henk Schuitemaker's FSX native conversion of Alphasim's freeware classic F-80 Shooting Star. Beautiful work. Available at Sim-Outhouse.

I have always liked bare-metal airplanes. The little ripples and dimples which come from shaping the metal and pounding rivets are dazzling on a polished skin. Sort of industrial art.

I still enjoy FS9. My sim time is split about equally between FS9 and FSX. But doing acceptable-looking bare-metal is extremely difficult in FS9. Not in FSX, with its bump and specular map layers on top of the basic textures. So I've really been enjoying this new FSX-native conversion.

The base pack includes some beautifull textures by Rick Mackintosh, Willy McCoy and Ed Wells. There are additional great textures to download at the Outhouse. The detailing in the VC is superb. Hard to believe that something this gorgeous is freeware!

Great pictures, thank you.
I have always had a love for this aircraft, my late father, who was a pilot in the RAF made me a tiny balsa wood model of it when I was 4 years old. painted in great detail. It still exists and is a treasured possession
