Would you swim here?

Postby Sinkrate » Wed Aug 03, 2016 2:07 am

Went for a ride along sun drenched Copacabana yesterday afternoon. No one bathing! I wonder why?

What a mess!

Fortunately, for me, I have no interest whatsoever in the Olympic Games, but it has highlighted the pollution, etc, problems in the area.

During the Olympic Games on the 'tele, I will be watching the antics of Sponge Bob and his friends... ;) ...!

Strange, the first link works but when I copied it, something must have got corrupted. But yes, there are many reports now about the appalling state of the water and air in Rio. When you look behind the façade of posh hotels on the sea front to the favelas at the rear, the stark contrast between rich and poor is breathtaking. The environment however, is the one thing they cannot segregate, no matter how much they dress the place up with millionaire’s yachts and luxury apartments.

Like you, I have no interest in the Olympic Games, but I remember Copacabana as being the playground of the rich and famous in the sixties. Now, it appears to be the toilet of the plebs.

I like to fly around cities when they make the news to see how accurately they have been modelled. I think Copacabana needs a bit more brown shading on the beach.

BTW, who the heck is Sponge Bob? Is he one of those “Bake Off” contestants?

So he’s an actual sponge then. Hmmm...… I felt guilty about watching old episodes of Thunderbirds but I guess I’m in good company.:character-oldtimer:
