around Mt St Helens

being a geologist, I had to visit this PNW volcano of course...

on my way..

diving into the crater, where a new lava mound is smoking...

Mt St Helens did not explode upwards, like most volcanoes, but sideways toward the north (left in this image) after a giant landslide. This is why the destruction was so great..

Image
Following the lahar away from the volcano. Note the devastation toward the north (left), while the area in the south remained more or less intact.

well, that did not disappoint! I think it looks great, you can almost map the different lava flows, and I love how they modelled the track of the lahar flowing away. Great stuff!

That scenery is beautiful! The mountain looks amazing, we're going to do a case study on Mt Saint Helens for our GCSE Geography class. ;)

If God intended aircraft engines to have horizontally opposed engines, Pratt and Whitney would have made them that way.
