A very nice Super Skymaster for you...!

Postby Fozzer » Mon May 30, 2005 12:27 pm

Hi Lads, Lasses, and piston prop enthusiasts...

A few pics of one of my favourite "Complex Type" aircraft, the lovely, (but unfortunately rather rare!), Cessna 337 Super Skymaster, with the tractor/pusher, engine/propellor arrangement...!

An excellent aircraft to brush-up on your introduction to the "change of type" to complex aircraft and up-grade your PPLicence...!
(After you have successfully completed your training on the Cessna 150/152 Trainer aircraft)...!

A way to learn the intricacies of throttle, propellor, and mixture controls to achieve the best take-off, cruising, and landing conditions..!

Observe the:
Fuel Flow.
Manifold Pressure.
Engine Revolutions.
Exhaust Gas Temperature.

Also, (if you are one of the lucky bunnies, like me, to have a copy on FS Navigator installed), the use of the radios to navigate by the Nav/Com/ADF/DME radios...!!!

Communications and Navigation:
Air Traffic Information Service.
Air Traffic Control.
Transponder.
VOR indicators.
ADF indicators.
DME indicators
etc...

Auto-Pilot:
Heading.
Altitude.
ILS (Instrument Landing Systems).
etc...

...also the importance of being aware of the position of your under-carridge...is it "up" or is it "down"....?
...and what about your flaps...what setting are they...?

...and if you are flying manually, (non auto-pilot), the use of the elevator "trim" wheel to correct the flying attitude, each time you increase/decrease power...!

Note that all this is included in Fozzers appreciation of small, Piston Prop, General Aviation, aircraft....
...but it could equally apply to the 13-year-old's flying shiny, aluminium, cigar-tubed, passenger, jet-propelled, fuel guzzeling,  "Boing 747" monstrosities....!
LOL...!

Cheers all....!

Paul L. Fosbery...off for some afternoon fun in my little Cessna 152...!

"Hi Fred. Papa-Lima-Foxtrot at runway 180. Ready for take off. Departure to the South. Over"
"Fred. Hi Papa-Lima-Foxtrot. Take off and departure to the South approved. Have a nice day."
"Papa-Lima-Foxtrot. Taking off and departure to the South. Thanks Fred. Catchya later. Over and out"

Hi Lemon....!

...you should have seen it before I removed the imitation Tiger skin covers from the seats....
...and the furry dice dangling from the windscreen...!

...and the screw-on wooden knobs on the throttles, each with a built-in thermometer...

It looks quite modern now... :'(...!

LOL...LOL...LOL... ;D...!

Nice one. The reason it's so rare though, I think, is because it's banned almost everywhere because it's just so noisy.... ::)

Hi Roger...!

A very fine example often appears at our annual Air Races at Shobdon, (EGBS)...
...and beware anyone who tries to compete with it...  ;)... ;D...!

The sound, as it flies overhead, is to die for...nothing quite like it, and the audience loves it... 8)... ;D...!
...even if the local villager's dont... ::)... ;)...!

It's a fantastic design, (I don't know if anyone else has tried it?)... :)...!

Cheers Roger...!
