So, what does the JRoc do?

I found this great scenery addon - the Hibernia Offshore Platform that's just east of St. John's - one of the places we do NDT inspections at.

Sadly, we don't actually own any aircraft, so I took it upon myself to paint this excellent Bell 430 in the same scheme as our work trucks. Oh, there I go again... here, enjoy these snaps.

Ahoy! Hibernia - situated in the foggiest region in the world.


Now this was weird - just prior to getting clearance to land the skies opened up - guess that's Canadian weather for you.

Yeah, it can be intense in many ways. We operate globally (and we're a small company to boot), and we're usually away from home from anywhere in between 2 to 6 weeks.  Travel can be crazy too, like the 40 or so hour flights to the southernmost city in Chile (and the world).  The work itself has its intense moments, such as working on 12-20 storey catwalks in gale force winds or other crappy weather.

So what does NDT stand for?  Are you a Canadian Government Agency?

I think the travel would be very interesting as long as one is single, might be a little hard on a married fella being away that long.  

However I guess there are lots of married folks in the military that are away six months and a lot more at times and their marriages are rock solid.

NDT=Non-Destructive Testing, we specialize in tubular inspections (ie: exhanger bundles and finned fans), but we do the odd surface scan.  Most of our work is in the petrochemical sector, but we've been hired to do airframe and other aircraft structural testing.

We're a privately-owned company, though 50% of the employees and owners are ex-mil.

Hi JRoc:

NDT or Non Destructive Testing on the base here does just about everything.  I think they have about three large buildings and I know they were testing Ontario Provincial Police weapons barrels amongst other stuff.

I thought they were just Military but I guess they do almost everything.

That would be an interesting career and I am sure they work very closely with the Canadian Space Agency, many Universities, and probably aircraft manufacturers etc.
