multiplayer formation flying... Blue Angels club.

Postby Boss_BlueAngels » Thu Sep 30, 2004 12:47 pm

Well, N272JB and I met up yesterday for some practice formation flying to see if our idea of forming a Blue Angels "club" is  even possible and check some things out.  It went really good... One thing we learned is not to do a formation takeoff in a taildragger.  lol :P

But, once in the air, the Extra seemed to be a pretty good platform to practice in... good visibility, speed, and decelerating performance.  (Something I REALLY like. lol)

Anyway, the following are pics from my point of view.

Right over wonderful Pensacola NAS

Landing in formation is one thing... but whenever I try to takeoff slowly, I just groundloop down the runway.

Aaawww yeah... that's much better. :D

One thing I really enjoyed was how easy it is to stay in a moderately tight formation in the Extra.  When the airplane wasn't skipping all around the sky due to internet connections (not that often really)  it was a piece of cake to stay on his wing even without voice comm.

Anyway, there are about two other people who have shown some interest in goining the group besides N727JB and I, so if anybody else is interested, E-mail, PM, or IM either one of us!  (We're having a practice session today at 3:00 pacific/6:00 eastern)
The day is always better when you're flying upside down.

Some good flying! i don't know how the real pilots do it, but i still believe it's much easier in real life. first they learn how to fly a formation (the basics) and second, when inside the plane it's much easier than when you have to look on a screen. they can move their head faster than you can switch views. also, i think a real jet behaves much smoother. in FS, a plane (especially a fighter) is very sensitvie to input.  ;)
Raw power...the J-58.

I was gonna take some shots also, but I don't have any of those programs. Great shots of the flight tho. Anyone who's interested is more then welcome. We have a session tonight at 6pm EST. We meet up on MSN Messanger. If your interested, drop me a line at Makos93FS@hotmail.com. I'm also glad you got a shot of that head on, that was a great move  ;D We were also able to hold a formation in the F-18, but considering were both on high speed internet, that could have been the reason. Anyways, Great shots Boss!  8)
