Your Graphics Card probably Silver1SWA, believe it or not!

MCAirjockey's 6800 compared to your 9800 is a little like comparing a B-17 to a B-52 - Both do similar jobs, both pack a considerable punch, alas, the B52 is simply leagues ahead in both technology & payload.
The principle is similar when you look at the 6800GT's performance compared to the old 9800 / FX5950's et al.

jordonj,
Now this is strange, ??? about SP2, that is.  This started with me not being sure which of the three settings to use; No action, Stop, or Stop and restart.  Using the last, which I thought meant would stop the selected applications and restart them after you've finished with the sim.  But it stopped them, then restarted them before the sim started.  So then I went to stop and went through it all again.  And when I quit the sim, I didn't see it starting anything back up.  So, I tried a restart, and just before shutdown, three individual dialogue boxes poped up one at a time saying: "Media center is not responding. End now?"  "nvidia twinview is not responding. End now?"  "mmjb is not respond...........  Now keep in mind, I had none of these programs even running when this was happening.  As a matter of fact, I dont even know what the first two are.  couldn't find them anywhere in a file search.  Soooooo, I uninstalled FSAutoStart and still the same thing with every restart.  Soooooo, next I decided to uninstall SP2.  Well that went about half way, then "an error occurred while uninstalling, cannot complete uninstall."  Couldn't remove it again from add/remove programs because when I clicked change/remove, it tells me it has already been removed would you like to remove the listing here?  But it was still there.  Then I tried to restore to an earlier time, and after waiting almost 20 minutes each of three times, I got this: "system could not be restored to such date and such time, nothing in your system was changed."  Now, this has never failed me anytime before.  This leads me to my last resort, reinstall OS.  Now I'm back to SP1 and think I'll stay there.

I bet I know what happened!  When you tried to uninstall SP2, Windows probably had a stroke!

As for what you set in FSAutoStart, you sort of have to keep track of what you have running before using it.  Much of the stuff I don't have running anyways.

Hope you didn't loose your add-ons, sorry if you did!

I would recommend adding SP2 for the extra security.  But anyways, nice to see you back!

Hello Fellows,

Why does taking out the fast food restaurants change the FPS so much. I haven't changed this on my FS yet, but after reading this thread I may do it. If there's not really a noticeable difference in not having the signs around, how does it give back FPS?
Awwww, crap!

This is when flying the LET tuboprop into O'Hare (my method of benchmarking)

Well, on my machine, I went from maybe 1-2 per-second framerate to a much more playable 15-20 FPS.

It's kind of hard to say as machines rather vary (I have my AI set to 75%, and I only  use PAI, having removed the default AI).

My suggestion is to back up the FS9.cfg file, make the changes, and try it (maybe inch those settings up as you try).  If it doesn't work too well, changing it back is a simple matter...;)
