Shuttleworth Military Airshow 2019
Posted: Tue Jul 09, 2019 12:23 pmI travelled up to Old Warden last Sunday for my first air show of the year. I'd arranged to meet an old friend who I hadn't seen for 20 years.
It was a most enjoyable day out with decent weather & good company.
Here's some pics of just some of the aircraft we saw. A selection of new ones mixed with old favourites. These are the WWII types.
This P-47D opened the show with a terrific display. A long time since I've seen one.
One of my personal favourites. The Collection's Gloster Gladiator.
The good old B-17G Sally B. I believe she's now the only airworthy example in Europe.
The Collection's recently completely rebuilt Spitfire VC, back in its original clipped wing configuration.
Another of my favourites. The Miles Maggie.
This Fw 44 Stieglitz gave a spirited display. There were two more on the airfield.
Now for the special finale. No less than 7 Hawker Hurricanes in the air. A rare sight indeed!
First up, the Collection's Sea Hurricane.
Dunkirk veteran P2902 in early wartime markings.
These two BoB veterans are also based here at OW.
The next pair are based at Duxford. HAC's Mk XIIa P3700
V7497 operated by ARCo
PZ865 "The Last of the Many" The last Hurricane built now owned & operated by the BBMF.
The whole airfield fell silent for this rare moment. What a beautiful sight & sound!
