It's an ill wind ....

Postby Hagar » Fri Sep 15, 2017 6:09 am

This topic was inspired by Rifleman's photos of a kitesurfer here --> https://forums.simviation.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=40&t=177747

It's been very windy around these parts recently which has unfortunately ruined a lot air events that I planned to attend.
However, all is not lost as my local beach is a haven for kite & windsurfers who like nothing better than strong south-westerly winds. 8-)
Here's a few shots of of some of the more experienced kitesurfers taken earlier this summer.

The last two are of local ace Jake Scrace who is famous for jumping over Worthing Pier back in 2009 *.

Nice stuff Doug.....do you run into the same troubles as I do, with having to balance the camera on your head to keep it above the surface.? Looks like maybe you have a little more focal length than me, but its really no issue. As long as the guys in the water know you have the camera pointing in their direction, they will do their best to put on a show......good technique for the action....

No, I didn't get wet. The beach is in a bay & the surfers come very close to the shore in the right conditions. 8-)

I don't know which lens you use Ken but these were taken with my trusty Canon 70 - 200 mm, the same one I use for my aircraft shots

Thanks. I take wildlife shots when I can. I don't have the patience to be really good at it.

I might post a few of the better ones later.

When I head down to our location Doug, I usually take along my 40-150 2.8 with the 1.4 Tele., to give me an effective 35mm equivalent of 420 mm at f-4.....again, like you, I have these guys in close to the shore in a very sheltered bay....although my sensor is only 1/4 of the full size, the camera give a good account of itself .....
