Unique aeroplane

Postby Hagar » Wed Jul 27, 2016 3:36 am

A little bird told me that filming of vintage aircraft is taking place at Shoreham this week so I took the camera along to investigate. Soon after I arrived this odd looking aeroplane was wheeled out of a hangar, started up & took off. It then proceeded to do a touch & go before departing. I managed to get a couple of shots of it in the air. Here's the best one. Anyone know what it is? (Answer below)

I must admit to not recognising it but the fin & rudder looked familiar. After checking on Google all became clear. It's a "Yakfire", a specially modified Yak 52TW camera ship involved in the filming of the new movie "Dunkirk". http://www.pressreader.com/uk/pilot/20160701/282179355363000

Wonderful find, Doug!

One of my favourite aeroplanes is the Yak 52 tricycle model, (rather than the Yak 50 tail-wheel model).
(A nice FS 2004 model).
"Tail-wheelers" always get me into a ground spin!.... :o ....!

A Yak 52 occasionally appears in the annual Air Races at my local Shobdon airfield!

Yet another beauty posted by the great Hagar (Doug) Looking at this makes me wonder when 'they' would angle those exhaust pipes more downward. I mean at taxi speeds and burble effects = exhaust overwhelms.

There is one by A.F. Scrub here in the FSX/Props/FSX page 49. See if this link works: http://simviation.com/simviation/download.php?ID=5737 . This link takes you directly to DOWNLOAD page so just click on 'Download'.

You are right. Thanks for the correction. The way I found it is thru right click of 'word' then 'search google for 'word'. There is no Yak on page 49 in the new library. Maybe google did a demographic on me as I am 77 yrs old. :?

Thanks for the renewed interest in this old thread. 8-)

I'd just like to point out that the aeroplane in my photo is a highly modified Yak 52TW (taildragger). I think it's the only one in existence, hence the title of this topic.
It's unlikely that there would be an FS model of it.

This is what it looked like before modification. https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/3/38/Yakolev_Yak52TW_%E2%80%98N699DP%E2%80%99_%2826134347593%29.jpg/800px-Yakolev_Yak52TW_%E2%80%98N699DP%E2%80%99_%2826134347593%29.jpg
