Air Mobility Command Museum, Part 1

Postby OldAirmail » Sat Sep 19, 2015 11:29 pm

It's been a while, so here I go again.

Actually, it's there I went, to the Air Mobility Command Museum in Dover, Delaware.

They have more than 30 aircraft, and every third Saturday of the month, between March and November, they have an open cockpit day.

And, yes, it is as much fun as it sounds.

You get to climb up into some pretty impressive planes, and check out the cockpits. In some all you can do is bend over a plexiglass barricade to take a picture. In others you can sit in the pilot/co-pilot seats.

Unfortunately, these are my pictures. But hopefully you'll enjoy the pictures anyway.

For now, I'll start with a few engines, and some simulators.

Mr Jet, I'm very confused.

I sent you my winning lottery ticket.

I even marked it in big block letters (red ink too);
IMPORTANT - WINNING LOTTERY TICKET
DO NOT FOLD, BEND, SPINDLE, OR MUTILATE.

I didn't sign it so you could use it all yourself for this important project of yours.

Don't know when I might win again, so you might want to go to the post office and see if it was delivered somewhere else.

Thanks, Rich.

Yeah it does have a little bit of power.

Horsepower: 2650 normal, 3800 take off
Cylinders: Four rows of 7 cylinders
:o

What a feat of engineering!

I always though that the Wasp was the biggest piston engine, your pics piqued an interest so I went surfing and found this The Lycoming XR-7755 http://www.aviation-history.com/engines/xr-7755.html . :o :o

My immediate question on seeing that monster was "How long, and how many people, does it take to service that"!
