CF-YHT....

..a Lake Renegade look-alike!....made entirely out of of wood!... :D ...!

Lovely photo's of a time, long-past!

Looking at our Tug in the various photo's, from a very young Lad, to a Teen-ager, it looks as tho' the plane took many years to complete!

Remembering how little time my wooden Canadian Canoe lasted, out in all weathers, before it rotted completely, I often wonder how long an aeroplane made completely out of wood, would last!

Some of my best Motorcycling time took place in the 1950's...!

Paul...Rock-n-Roll!.... :D ...!

Hey there shadowcaster, CF-YHT was a Volmer Sportsman, if you google the plane there is some articles on it.

Hey there Fozzer, The plane took 6 years to build. It started off in the bacement of my fathers friends house then was taken to our home to be finished. You should have seen the look on his friends wifes face when she came home to a huge hole in their front yard  and part of the foundation of the house gone frome the hole hey made to get the plane out of the bacement. It went from our house to the garage that it is sitting in front of in the picture to be painted and frome there out to the airport about 6 miles away. We had the aircraft for about 15 years and then it was sold to someone that latter ground looped it during landing :( . The only thing that was left of the plane was the front wheels, engine and cockpit which was still intact. The two people in the pland suffered only scratches from the incident.

Ta for the info, Tug!

Wooden aircraft survival....
I can remember, a few years ago, a Vans RV4 (wooden aircraft) making a bad landing at my local Airfield (EGBS), skidding across the grass, barely missing a couple of parked aircraft, colliding with a low wooden fence, taking its wheels off, and was completely destroyed!
A few days later, a Dumper Truck arrived at the Airfield and scooped up the sad remains, and dumped it all into the back of a lorry/truck and carted it all off......probably to the Aeroplane Heaven in a Land-Fill Site!

I fear the time is rapidly approaching when me, and my wooden box, will be carted off to a Land-Fill Site... ...!

Paul... ... ...!

Van's aircraft are of all-metal construction. https://www.vansaircraft.com/public/rv-design.htm

....you forced me into recalling the accident again...

Jodel DR1050 (G-ATGP)

Accident report:
http://www.google.co.uk/url?sa=t&rct=j& ... 8268,d.d24

All that remained was a pile of wood.

Paul.

To my ill-informed eyes, Jodels and Vans look very similar.

Tug002...wonderful Link... ;)

One of my favourite aircraft was the Vohmer...

Several of the Volmer aircraft used VW Beetle air cooled engines with the prop attached in the pusher configuration... ;)

Glad that you enjoyed the pictures, they were the only ones my mother had left as my father gave most of them to the airport. As soon as I get a chance this summer I am going to go to the Trenton air bace ad get some photos of the aircraft that they restored there and post them. They have a nice restored Lancaster there with a good story board behind it. Last time I was there only the outside was done but I believe now that it is compleatly restored.
