One of only two flying.....

Just been down in the hangar and this has turned up. Apparently one of only two flying examples left. It is a Ryan Aeronautical ST-A. I am told you need a big pair to fly it. Once the flaps are down, there is absolutely no room for errors.......

Excellent shots, Matt... :D ...!

I am always curious, as one who needs constant warmth, how do you manage to keep the Hangar warm enough to work in all day in the Winter, etc, especially if the main doors are open.
It must cost a fortune in heating bills....!

...or do the mechanics just shiver in the cold?

Paul...Toasty Central Heating... :D ...!

Well Paul, now I am the boss...... Let the mechanics eat cake.....

Seriously, it is a heating bill that your winter heating allowance would cover for about............48 seconds.......... :o

What a gorgeous aircraft! Looking at the cockpit shots, especially at the ribs and stringers, it looks brand new. Do you know anything about it Matt? Was it recently restored?

It really looks like it should be sitting in an aircraft dealer's showroom doesn't it? That AN-2 in the background is no ugly betty either.

I did Google the registration to find out more, but did not really get far. She belongs to a local club Quax. The Internet still has her listed as being in the US. I have a very good mate who is a member (I would love to join, but I have no spare time), I will ask him. As for the AN-2, that is "Foky" as she is know due to the egistration D-FOKY. She is immaculate and looks like she left the production line yesterday. Owned by a doctor who likes to go for a spin on a Sunday or nice summer evening. I am told he will take people with him if asked.......Price, a smile on your face after the landing.....

I found this if it helps. http://www.quax-flieger.de/galerie/ryan-sta-nc18923

There is another airworthy example in the UK (tail number NC14986). It won the concours d'elegance at the Goodwood Revival meeting last year. http://avpicsphilwhalley.wordpress.com/2013/10/19/winning-ryan-st-a-goodwood-revival-2013/

I found those, but I could not find any specific information about this particular aircraft, history, etc. Also the Goodwood example, outstanding....!

Owned by a doctor, I should have known. A lot of pristine aircraft here are owned by doctors which is fine because they usually really baby them.
