I read a book once by CF Rawnsley. I think it was called "Night Fighter." Rawnsley was the"brains' behind John Cunningham's success. As we all know, Cunningham was nicknamed "Cat's Eyes" which he hated. However, his success was due to the skill of his Observer/Navigator using the then infant AI radar. The book is a documentary and interesting for many reasons. One is that it documents the progress of the Air Gunner's role in a night fighter, to being a navigator/observer. The progress of airborne radar was rapid and technological advances seemed to be made daily. Just a thought, that later these highly skilled operators did their training in Canada before being posted to an OTU in the UK. Like it was said, I wonder how many survived and if any of them are still with us?

Thanks logjam...much appreciated for the reply and information... ;)

The Old Girl and I drop into our Royal Canadian Legion Branch every two or three days. The old timers are getting fewer and fewer.

We have lost two Old Retired Rocking Chair Flying Geezers this year, 2014, it is not even the end of March yet. They will be sadly missed at our Bugsmasher Field.
