Looks like the 787 must have different MEL requirements for the cockpit door. For the 737, several different parts can be missing and or inoperative. As long as the dead bolts can secure the door is serviceable. They are manual as in farm gate. Seems odd that both the electronic and the manual would be both U/S. Even the blow out panels can be manually secured. Maybe there is just an all around over sensitivity to snags on a new aircraft type...............

1. Captain, if the problem is not entered into the technical logbook.........then the aircraft does not have a problem.
2. And, if you have time to write the fault on a napkin and attach to it to the yoke.........you have time to write it in the tech log....see point 1.
