An AN-124 came into PHL to pick up a couple Chinooks going overseas.  I couldn't stick around to see her depart.

Enjoy!!  :)

Wonderful shots... :)

Been on those aircraft a good many times and know a few of the crews.

Wonder why they did not send them on the C5A Galaxy?

Cheers...Happy Landings...Doug

Thanks Gents!!

It's supposed to be coming back Wednesday to pick up two more.  They is a total of 16 being sold to the United Arab Emirates.

Awesome!  I was lucky enough to work with one of those when they brought 2 Mi-17's to Abbotsford (CYXX) for Kelowna Flightcraft.  Very impressive aircraft.

Volga-Dnepr often carries military equipment.  I was told it had something to do with range, I guess the AN-124 has longer range than a C-5.

Goodly morning all... :)

I think Cory just answered my question as to why the AN 124 was used and not the C5A Galaxy.

It would seem it is a civilian sale of disposable military equipment and therefore I would imagine  a civilian company would have to be used.

It would also seem from internet sources that the AN124 will carry about twenty-five percent more payload one thousand kilometers farther than the C5A also.

Cheers...Happy Landings...Doug

Since the Boeing Plant is just a little ways from PHL a lot of equipment is shipped out of PHL.
