As luck had it, I was in NYC today and was able to get over to
Pier 81 in time to see Reid Stowe and the mighty schooner Anne make landfall after his epic voyage. History seen as it happened. Took some film shots with the long lens on my old Canon, too- we'll see how those come out.

My first glimpse, after scrambling to figure out exactly where she would be moored... after being escorted by a flotilla up the river, Anne made a few passes while lowering sail, after this fireboat finished its salute and cleared the way.

Almost there... At this point there was someone else on board to help - probably came off another boat- but Reid has been out in blue water handling this 60-ton schooner all by himself since his girlfriend Soanya had to disembark off Australia after the 300th day or so (due to an unexpected "expecting" condition!).

And there she is, looking tired but still very capable.

This was mostly an event for press, family and friends, so I couldn't get much closer. But it was amazing just to be there- sort of like being at Le Bourget when Lindbergh landed.
Reid looked to be in great shape, but I'm sure it was odd to stand on terra firma after so much time at sea! Here he is just before he stepped ashore...

Reid had a few things to say, in a strong, clear voice full of emotion, and answered a few questions form the press.
