Not quite St Maarten - but cool anyway... Rhodos Greece

Hi all,

Long time since I've posted around here, but I got the urge... :-)

Last week I was in Rhodos - Greece. A nice Island in the Mediterranean sea. My hotel was located on the west side of the Island, the same side as the airport.

Nice surprise was that the flighpath of the arriving planes was near the hotel. They turned over the water to line up with the runway and did a fly by of the beach...

The beach facing the Aegean sea... Turkey's shore visible at the horizon.

Planes turned anywhere between those hills in the back and the area of my hotel.

I flew in with Thomas Cook, but the Belgian branch, not the Scandinavian one...

This one got me puzzled for a while. Thought it was a private 767, but it turns out to be a TUI Belgium airlines plane. Guess it awaits more markings...

This one came in pretty low. Me and some other men around the beach could really appreciate it!

Great!

That TUI Belgium one is very sharp! They should just keep the livery like that!  ;)

I did some more research and the livery of the 767 remains as it is now.

Tui charters the plane to Thomas Cook and Neckermann to perform flights for those holiday makers, hence no big visible TUI logo.

It's OO-TUC, a somewhat infamous plane in Belgium. This former Varig bird has been struck by several mishaps, had to make 2 emergency landings and was grounded numerous times due to technical failures. It now has a sibling in the TUI Belgium fleet.

One of the best known "problems" was a small dent in the fuselage... some passengers noticed this in Jamaica. Wouldn't want to fly a bird in this state either...

Just scroll the photo's!  :o

Probably fixed by now... I hope... lol

Never thought this bird would visit such a small island... :-)

Good to see you popping in Kris. [smiley=thumbsup.gif]

Quality isn't top notch, as I used my old Panasonic FZ5. Don't like hauling my dslr's around on holidays, though I miss them at some times... This was one of those times... lol

The quality is fine. Probably a good idea to leave the big lenses at home. The authorities in some countries don't seem to understand aircraft spotting. :o
