Farewell VC10's

Farewell to XV109 and XV807, a pair of VC10's landing for the very last time at Bruntingthorpe in Leicestershire. Now awaiting their fate.
A sad sight indeed.

Low go around!!!

Sad to see a couple go, although I prefer seeing 109 now going than sending 808 to Cosford. As you can see the spares recovery operation started pretty much as soon as they landed with 109 going on the jacks.

As for the low go around, as you'd have seen it was almost a low, slow flyby - brought about by a lack of up to date published airfield information I suspect.

Mind you, defence reviews permitting, hopefully we'll see the VC10s in the air for another 3-4 years yet.

C, The documentation for Bruntingthorpe is ok and gives the required information for an unlicensed aerodrome. The captain of the first aircraft had been up to the airfield a couple of weeks ago to have a closer look at the final approach, runway and parking area. The crews planned to carry out a formation fly through, then a low approach prior to the final landings.

Very sad, but what a tremendous run these ships had!!

It's like attending the funeral of someone who lived to be 150, and was spry and active until the very end. Pretty silly to cry over that.   

Someone remind me of this when they catch me sniffling over the last B-52 flight... 

I'm just glad I'll be long dead when they retire the last airworthy DC-3, in about 100 years!
