More to come and info to follow in the proper threads. Virtual high five to whoever can guess the aircraft, shouldn't be too hard?

Yep, an Avenger. Hellcat has a more oval cowling, and are very rare.

Yep, an Avenger.

Indeed. Most likely this one. http://www.warbirdregistry.org/avengerregistry/avenger-91110.html

Mitch is either very tall or used a stepladder to take that photo.

Hellcat has a more oval cowling, and are very rare.

I didn't realise quite how rare. Only 6 airworthy in the world.

Spot on, good old Randal MacFarlane's Avenger. Although we do have 2 other Avenger's flying in Australia and both owned by Steve Searle, however these 2 sport a dark sea blue paint as opposed to the lighter blue seen on the engine cowlings in my photo. ;)

And that shot was taken from a fair way back zoomed close using my 40-150mm lens. :)

How about another preview, I know a few who will enjoy the site of this bird...

That's what I was going to guess, but the cowling looks wrong.

EDIT: Never mind, I guess it is. http://www.hars.org.au/2009/05/douglas- ... 95-vh-eae/
Never seen one with that type of inlet on top.
