Now then, we all know old things are better than new things. Old aircraft are better than new aircraft, old cars are better than new cars and old locomotives are better than new locomotives ;).

The Duchess of Sutherland was part of my Hornby model railway when I was a kid, it's probably still in my Dad's loft now.. along with numerous others, Mallard and Flying Scotsman to name a couple.

Excellent stuff Roger!

Happy Memories of my Steam Train journeys between Hereford and Paddington Stations, on the old Great Western Railway in the 1930's, and 1940's...
...head out of the window...hot Cinders in the eyes...smell of hot steam and oil...slam of heavy doors...whistle....clatter of wheels over Rail gaps.. ;D...!

...long gone now... :'(...!

Paul.... 8-)...!

King George V loco. which was on display, (and use), at HP Bulmers Cider Works at Hereford where I worked as an Electrical Engineer, and I regularly saw, living the city...>>>

There is a rather nice "private" railway down in Surrey that I took Emi to last year that does "proper" trains with the old fashioned carriages. Loadsa fun 8-)

I have a Hornby Duchess of Sutherland in a box downstairs, not been used for about 20 years, must get a new basic kit to see if it still works.

Cheers Rog

Might be worth a few quid if it's in good nick Steve. The motor is in the tender on those old Hornby Duchess models and they can be a bit dodgy.

I think it's a bit to well used to be worth much, but it may still go.

I have an Evening Star as well, but it is pretty much wrecked. I understand it was dropped back in the dim and distant by a very young hooligan (  :-[ :-X ), the tender is smashed and disconnected from the engine. The rods were all bent, but I managed to straighten them out so that it freewheels.

I'll try and take a couple of shots, the Star is gorgeous as I remember.
