It's actually the tree's roots, reaching back to land for nutrients.  There was an arch there until several years ago when it collapsed, but the roots maintained contact and continue to feed the tree. 

I'm surprised you caught that, very few people look at this pic and realize there is a "bridge" there  [smiley=thumbsup.gif]

Now that is somewhere I'd love to live.

I love the second one. It looks like a prehistoric beast drinking from the lake!
