Nice. I picked up modelling last summer, and I have really enjoyed building aircraft models, and even a couple vehicles. I really want to do a Spitfire sometime, but I'm waiting untill my skills are better

I presume you're using enamels? If so I'd advise getting some Tamiya black acrylic. It dries really quickly and you can wash the brushes in water (perfect for doing a speedy pit )

Also, there's no harm in drybrushing some dark silver across the dials to make them stand out, then adding white needles using cocktail sticks....looks good from a distance

Will get pictures of the 1/48 Vc up when it's finished (first coat of sand on 10 mins ago now the paints have arrived)...will put some pics up of the PRXIX aswell if anyone's interested

Well I said I would but, I was thinking about the size of the actual bracing wires, I figured they were about 5mm so 0.07mm to 1/72 scale so I dont know if its worth it, but Ill give it a try

If you're going to do the rigging at least try to get it right. The inboard attachment points of the flying & landing wires in those photos are wrong. This affects how they cross in the centre.

PS. The inboard ends of both landing wires are attached to the rear spar of the upper wing. The inboard ends of both flying wires are attached to the front spar of the lower wing.

Forgot to ask....does that Spit II have recessed panel lines?

You guys probably know all about this already but the Fine Scale Modeler website (and magazine) is IMO one of the best around for 'how to' stuff, photos and giving me general feelings of inadequacy!

I need to make some Cockpit Screens as well, any suggestions?

If you mean little windscreens, I'd take a piece of unused transparent sprue (from the spit if necessary), carve it into the right shape using a knife and lots of sanding, then sand using gradually smaller grades of paper/micromesh to make it clear before dunking it in some Klear....

What a good idea, you can't beat a bit of aero modelling! I've not done any now for about a year and I've got one or two kits still to finish off!

These are the last two kits I started. The Spitfire is the Airfix 1/48 Mk24 and the Sea Fury is a Trupeter 1/48 that costs far too much money and is only better than the old Hobby Craft kit because it has a wing fold.

Tip for the Spitfire IIa (or any Airfix Spitfire kit for that matter).The wing to body fit is quite poor. Glue the seat and panel to one side of the body only. When the body halves are glued and dry, cut off a small bit of scrap spur and wedge it into the fuselage, just behind the panel. It will help fill out the wing to body joint.

On the Airfix Mk IX it helpes make the upper cowling fit better also.

I'm assuming you're airbrushing.....that camo looks superb  8-)

Michael and HT5 I dont know about you , but when assembling the cockpit I found that the Gun Sight stuck out to far for the early marks, and also the control colum was very long, I just took a knife to both the problems
