Do they know that though? I've been stung by a honeybee once or twice before while minding my own business, so i'm not exactly sure why the bee felt it needed to sting me and then die for nothing...

The different species of honey bees are distinguished from all other bee species (and virtually all other Hymenoptera) by the possession of small barbs on the sting, but these barbs are found only in the worker bees. The sting and associated venom sac are also modified so as to pull free of the body once lodged (autotomy), and the sting apparatus has its own musculature and ganglion which allow it to keep delivering venom once detached. The worker bee dies after the sting is torn out of its body.

I don't think it was a honeybee if it stung twice. Honeybee's stingers are barbed, so they get stuck in the flesh of whatever they sting, but when they try to pull it out it rips out their guts. Yellow jackets & wasps can sting many times however.

We would be very pleased if you shipped some of them over to us in England...

...for some reason, we are getting desperately short of Bees to pollinate our Crops, etc... ...!

Every now and again our crop of Runner Beans, etc, fails, because of of the shortage of Bees, for pollination.

There is a shortage of bees in the States too. Mostly do to something called 'Colony Collapse Disorder'.

But in the first year this hive should produce 15-20 lbs. of honey, and as much as 60 lbs. the second year.

Honey anyone...?
