found this bird in the back yard while i was waiting for the Apache heli to fly back over my house but unfortunately it didn't

Was it a little windy. I bet it was one of the colored feathers on a male's head blown up in the breeze. Even bird have bad hair days.

Is your Doxie a purebred or mix?  Lookin a little chubby  ;D
