Die hard gliding (and spotting)- pt 1 of 3

Gusty x-wind almost put a damper on things today, but it was not too bad when the sun peeked out and warmed things up. I got two loggable flights in today; even practiced boxing the wake, which I haven't done in a while. I got some really good shots today, too... but these aren't them. :D (see pts 2 and 3).

I was very surprised to see banners being dropped today... must have been for a football game or something.

Here's Patsy on a later flight with Herb towing.

A good breeze will get you off the ground early, especially solo. Greg had a bit of a fight on this one, but got up OK. The crab seen here is correct for a crosswind, although it looks crazy. Once Herb got the Citabria climbing, they both settled into a crab together.

Rather busy today, early on... a C182RG departs right on the heels of a tow, with arriving traffic in sight to the west.

A very nice Cherokee arriving on 25.

That "Cherokee" is one clean looking bird.

Exellent shots on the tow plane and glider takeoff...very nice... ;)

Lovely little glider!... Looks like it has a lot of character. What's it like to fly?  :)

At first, for me, it was like steering a crippled battleship, but now I can get it to do all sorts of things without any trouble.

The 2-33 is one of the most successful trainers ever, to give you a general idea of what they're like to fly. Just forgiving enough; just challenging enough. Good glide ratio, but not too good. Rugged, simple, good payload capability.

Quite a lot of noise and vibration if you slip deeply or stall it (mostly just air buffeting the fabric fuselage), but it's not alarming after you do a few. Herb got it to spin once (on purpose), which surprised me- recovered very easily.

Hi Sean... :)

A small request if you will please.

Would you post some cockpit shots of the instrument panel while in flight in the 2-33 Glider?  I would love to see the front and rear cockpits while in flight and how you release the tow cable.

Also perhaps of some release mechanism on both the tow aircraft and the glider.

Thanks in advance.   ;)

Cheers...Happy Landings...Doug
