Rotten weather again. It's so long since I took any photos of aircraft that I felt like posting something. The question is, what?

I took these on a visit to Popham in September which seems a lot more than two months ago.

First of all, two beautiful Pitts Specials. I love these little aeroplanes.
           

The resident Ant on a slow fly-by. Graceful as a galleon in full sail.
     

Ian Trask in his immaculate Yak 55. He's a regular visitor & always gives us a nice show. He spends more time inverted than the right way up.
     

Mic's Old Sarum topic reminded me of my visit there, again in September. I didn't realise the camera was on the wrong settings for most of the day so the results were disappointing. Here's one of my better efforts. This nice little Kitfox is also a regular visitor to Popham. That's a dummy radial cowling covering up a standard Rotax engine.
     

This nice Tiger Moth is based at Old Sarum. The odd colour scheme shows up well in the air. Note the ingenious trolley under the tailskid. I thought they were making rather a meal of it as I used to hoist the tail on my shoulder & move them on my own. I suppose that would be against health & safety regulations these days. :-/
     

Unfortunately I haven't got any photos to prove it so here's one of a young Hagar swinging the prop instead. Must have been in 1961 when I was 18. I pinched it from the Shoreham Airport News. I thought they wouldn't mind as I had no idea it was being taken & nobody asked my permission.

That last shot is classic Doug.....very nice

That tiger moth must have been the one I saw in the hangar yesterday

Excellent shots as always Doug, the Tiger Moth shot has just jogged my memory as there's one based along side a Stampe sv4c down at Liverpool (think i may pop down tommorrow and get some photo's)

The last shot is a keeper.

There was an Antonov aircraft at the base this past summer.

As far as I'm aware there aren't any flying sunderlands around right now

Never been a fan of cream coloured aeroplanes, but that second Pitts actually looks quite nice.

Just by chance Doug, any "Sunderland" shots or is there even a Sunderland flying now?

I did some work on the Sunderland that is now at Kermit Weeks' "Fantasy of Flight" museum in Florida. See Mic's link. Unfortunately I never got to see the complete aircraft although I was invited down to Calshot for a guided tour several times. Too much to do in those days. Much to my surprise I heard on the news that it was on its way to Florida. I next saw it while on a visit to Florida but again I missed out on a tour & have no photos. I don't recall ever seeing one in the air.

From what I've read that Sunderland is far from being airworthy although I believe it is now parked inside.

PS. Just remembered I have some photos somewhere of a few idiots from this forum larking about in the Sunderland at the RAF Museum, Hendon. I'll see if I can find them. There is another one in the Hall of Aviation museum in Southampton. I might pop down there & take some photos soon.

The Kitfox looks very nice. Can't say I've ever seen one like these. I'm still jalous about all the nice airfields you guys have there, over the pond. Thanks for sharing these with us.
