Camera suggestions....

Hello all,

I'm looking at getting a digital slr and my price range is between 500-600 to start. I know the holiday specials are coming out and I wanted to see what everyone would recommend in the realm of a decent camera/lense combo that won't break the bank but will allow me the ability to upgrade to newer nicer lenses in the future.

Thanks in advance for any helpful info :)

You'll find many users of the Canon rebel XTi around here which gives you access to the entire range of canon Eos lenses.  You can go with the basic at first and there's tons of room for advancement.

www.dpreview.com for reviews.

Look at the entry-models of Canon, Nikon, Olympus, Sony and Pentax

Personally I'd go for Canon or Nikon, just because they have the widest range of lenses and accessories. Image-qualitywise they stand above the compitition when it comes to difficult conditions.

Think this trough carefully, as you'll pick a system, rather than a camera. You are bound to buy new lenses and other stuff in the future and these things are always linked to the marl of the camera. So you can't switch fro Nikon to Canon after some years, without changing your entire arsenal.

Pich up a model with IS kitlenses ( gets good reviews) and start shooting. In some time you'll find out wether you need to buy new lenses fot the specific type of photography you want to exersice...

well then it is settled...after about 5 hours of looking and pricing yesterday I came up with the following :)

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6830120278

definately not the best, and I'll need to buy a telephoto lens before the start of the airshow season but it is indeed a step up from what I was using :)

So who's got a good website where I can start learning the basics of how to use this thing?

Jared, you can go to any Basic Photography site and get some starter info.......google search just that .....

I looked at this one and find it to be reasonable for the total beginner. Just don't expect to learn it all, overnight.........you can probably ignore the film section, but some of even that part may be handy in understanding the relationship of ISO to ShutterSpeed and Aperture......dig in, it's learning time........
