I can home from work this morning and just before the turn off for my street, I came head to head with just about every ambulance, police car and rescue vehicle that my town has and the rescue helicopter (though by the time the chopper was ready to go, 90% of them had already left) and five emergency doctors. I could not go any further and had to wait over an hour to get by........I was 100 metres from my house!!. What happened, well as the title says, this is more for our younger members who a learning to drive or have just passed their test...........Also the rest of us are not to old to learn. The pictures only tell a very small part and have been greatly cropped so that they are fit for consumption. This road has a speed limit of 70 kph. Out of shot is a golf sized car imbeded sideways into a tree. The skid marks say a lot more than 70 kph. No other vehicle involved (thank goodness). 6 people children between the age of 17 and 21 where in the car. Five thrown our into the road by the impact. Police reported that none had seat belts on. By the time the helicopter shots where taken two casualties where taken away by ambulance and a third in the heli. The other three...............they lay dead in the street where they landed whist the police accident teams took photos.

So, if you are learning or just passed your test, remember, you are young, but not bullet proof. Three mothers this morning answered the door to a policeman (think of him too).

On a lighter note, the helicopter pilot, it was a lot tighter by the trees than the pictures show............and, she was quite a hottie!

reittereating most of the above really, Its even more worrying that in a questionaire we did in Sixth Form olny last friday i was put in an "at risk" catagory from Speed, but fine on the others!! At least i dont start learning to drive until next February

Don't forget yourself (!)... and anyone in the car with you... or that vehicle you hit... it's just not worth it.

I guess I was lucky I didn't have access to a car when I was of minimum age to drive: a few of my high school classmates were killed in car crashes; some from drunk driving, and one from getting clobbered by an impatient old lady trying to pass on a 2-lane road (the other kind of dangerous driver).

And every day you can read or hear about some tragedy that could have been averted by a moment's forethought. On the road, lives can be taken away or ruined forever in the blink of an eye.

With a little experience you learn you can "stretch out" a little when it's safe, especially if you have a car that's any fun at all to drive, but you always have to think ahead, drive predictably, and assume everyone else on the road with you is a complete idiot.
