I had to go into town today so I took the camera & had a toddle along the beach. It was actually nice & sunny most of the time but there were some dramatic cloud formations over the sea to make things interesting. The colour of the water was quite breathtaking.

     

Worthing Pier. In better condition than most piers nowadays, touch wood.
     

A selection of fishing boats. Most of them look like they've just been painted before the winter sets in.
           

One of the local fishermen. He kindly let me watch him strugging to launch his boat. I offered to help but he's used to it & I would have got in his way.
     

Some of the young lads fishing off the end of the pier. Making the most of the half-term holidays.
     

One of the last shots I took before catching the bus home. A view looking eastwards along the coast with the Seven Sisters glistening in the sunshine.

You live in a very beautiful part of the world. 8-) I really like the picture of the fisherman. Has a nice sense of honesty to it. All I got to look at here is corn fields.

I totally understand how you feel Doug. I have a similar sort of liking for being near the salt air too......I need to get down to the river to see if I can catch some of the Seals feeding on the Salmon which are running back up to spawn.......it's that time of year again here.

Stunning it makes me want to be there :-/

Makes me miss living on the coast. Its a completely differant type of lifestyle. Fantastic photos.

Excellent set Doug, I love the contrast between the bright colours of the boat & the dull grey sky in the 4th picture - just looks stunning.

Those homes in the background, here we call them "row houses or town house" as they are all attached.
Is that what they call them there or are they condos?

I take it they would be quite expensive because of the location to the water.

They would be called terraced houses in this part of the world Doug. The ones in my photos are Edwardian style houses with lots of large rooms. I imagine they would be comparatively expensive but I have no idea of the value. An old school friend of mine bought* a rather grand "Townhouse" in Brighton (Oriental Place, opposite the fire damaged West pier..for Hagar  ;) ) This property is near the sea, but doesn't have "views" of it, unless you stand on the roof. Also he only owns two out of the 4 floors.. how much?

HALF A MILLION POUNDS!

*Mortgage, not yet paid for.

And that's about usual for the area he's in.

I'd just like to make it clear that not everyone living on the south coast is a millionaire, far from it.

Most of those properties along the seafront at Worthing were built when it was fashionable to have large families & possibly a couple of servants "living in". They're far too big for the average family home nowadays which is why most of them have been converted into hotels & nursing homes.

Same as my friend's penthouse Doug, it's a rather grand Edwardian Terrace and he owns the top two floors. 5 bedrooms.. the whole shebang.
It's probably worth 20% less than what he paid for it now though  :P
