Mic posted some photos of owls recently. There's a Bird of Prey Centre at Old Warden which I've been intending to visit for a long time now. Saturday's Sunset Display seemed the ideal opportunity as the air show ticket price included entry to both venues (& the Swiss Gardens). Less of the chat, here's the pics of these fascinating creatures. I'm ashamed to say I didn't take a note of which breeds of owls they are.



A really excellent day out & great value for money. The last air show of the season is on Sunday 5th October.

The second owl is very very cute .

Terrific shots!  3 and 5 remind me of my cat Mortar  ;D  He always looks ticked off.

Owls certainly are beautiful birds, last time I saw one was on the "big island" of Hawaii, but we were in a tactical convoy headed up Mauna Kea so I couldn't just pull the Humvee over and start snapping pictures  :P  I was bummed about that, it was a big owl too!

LOL- I guess they were probably around before us, so maybe we have eyes like theirs.

They are set up very well for what they do- swooping on prey typically in forested areas... they have excellent steroscopic vision, good for judging close distances quickly, which is a must when you're jinking around trees and bushes near Vne, trying to nab a mouse!

Wow! Nice images!
I have 2 owls that appear in my trees every night at around dusk... They make these little cooing noises to each other.
Will try to get a shot but usually hard as it is dark..

Look quite friendly, but not sure a vole would agree.

Great details, but they do have a bit of a...menacing look.
