A celebration of 500 days
Posted: Thu Sep 04, 2008 10:55 pmI had some time to kill between a day shift and a night shift in Manhattan today, so of course I had no excuse to not go to the little party in honor of Reid Stowe's completion of the first half of his 1000-day non-stop sailing voyage, on the awesome party barge currently moored at Pier 66.
Only person I know who I bumped into was Reid's brother, Wave, who I'd met on a day sail aboard the Anne a coupla years back. It was good to see him again; we chatted about their sister (who used to live in the loft in Newark), and it turns out she is doing well, although she could not attend the party.
It was a fun couple of hours... nice people, a good jazz band, and excellent munchies. Took a couple of cell phone snaps...
Here is Soanya saying a few words... she had to get off the boat months ago, because it turned out she was pregnant. She delivered a healthy boy last month.
The lovely "Sheena" performs a graceful dance for everyone's entertainment... the video running in the background is footage shot during the schooner's first Antarctic voyage- the scene shown is where the crew enjoyed an outdoor hot tub at Palmer Station! ;D
Well, 500 down and 500 to go... should be a helluva party when Reid and the intrepid Anne return home safely!! :)
