I recently purchased a Canon rebel xti. I am now in the market for some new lens(s) but im wondering if the two im interested in would compliment each other well?
The first is the cheaper L series glass with no IS. I would be using it outdoors anyway so I don't think I would need the IS terribly.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6830998379The next would be a 28-135mm lens with IS for indoor and quick outdoor shots.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6830998376Would those two work well? Or should I just bite the bullet and get the next level up L series with IS and forget about the smaller lens? Wither way I need to keep it around the 1000 dollar mark.
I look forward to hearing suggestions.

If I'm not mistaken the first is the lens I borrowed on a trip to the hills in Wales, and I would recommend it. It saved a lot of otherwise wasted shots on a tough day. It's biggest drawback is the focal length, which I did get a little frustrated with at times, but in general its a fantastic bit of kit at a good price.

Depends what you want the lenses for. You have to consider whether 200 mm will be enough to play with. If it isn't this could end up costing you a lot of money. I'm speaking from experience.

Firts, the 70-200 L f4 is an amazing lens for it's price. I looked into it at the time I needed a telelens for spotting, but 200 mm just isn't going to cut it. I bought the EF 70-300 IS for more reach and stabilisation, but I'd still like more reach. It's somewhat cheaper than the 70-200 L 4f. The Canon 100-400 IS L would be a nice spotting lens, but it doesn't come cheap. Alternative is the 50-500 or newer 150-500 lens by Sigma, or the 80-400 OS ( stabilised version). Just check the reviews on those lenses.
For indoor sports, I'd recommend a f2.8 lens, as most halls are dark. The lens you propose has IS, but that won't help you, as the shuttertimes will be so long at f5.6, you'll have blur from the players movement and IS isn't going to help you there. Also remember you'll need a fast AF lens for sports. I doubt the 28-135 will be fast enough.
If you want to combine things in one lens, you could consider de Canon 70-200 f2.8 L, combined with a 1,4x converter. This gives you a fast lens for sports, + extender = a f4 lens with 280 mm reach for spotting. This will cost you a heap of money, even more if you choose the 70-200 f2.8 L IS.
Anyway, I choose the Sigma 70-200 f2.8 + Sigma 24-70 f2.8 for my concertwork. The 70-200 f2.8 also has a very fast AF, so ideal for sports. Hasn't got the same ultimate imagequality as the L-lenses, but didn't destroy my wallet either, leavin room for my Canon 70-300.

The 70-300 IS has done me some good, although I still long for a L series. Maybe when I get a full frame
