A restored RR Merlin XX reving up to full power.... This one was salvaged from a crashed Bristol Beaufighter II ( R2335 to be precise), restored to working order in honour of the fallen WWII pilots...

Ok, I know it was never used in a Spitfire, but still, the sound made me run towards the stand. Like music in the ears...

As Kris says, it was salvaged from a crash site. I suspect that combined with a lack of engineering paperwork would keep it firmly ground-bound.

It is displayed in between Pink Lady (B-17) and Old Crow (P-51). It probably belongs to the same collection, but I didn't find out more about it's owners...

Sadly the only thing moving ( just static show), but I'm hoping to cath the departures tomorrow...

Saw this chap at Duxford a few years ago. He was with another who had a RR Griffin, complete with cut down props. Unfortunately the Griffon would not start, even when jumped started by the Merlin. Shame I would have liked to have seen a contrarotating engine up close and personal. The crowd that gathered to watch, well a few pilots that where taxing about at the time must have been a bit miffed at the loss of attention

There has GOT to be some way to install that thing in my truck...

There is also a guy in the USA who has done something similar with an old Chevy.

I reckon he must have that prop well and truly "Feathered"...

I don't think those little Chocks would prevent him from being suddenly and rapidly propelled forward if it went into "Coarse" pitch at full throttle..... ...!

My Motor-Bike's engine makes a deafening noise in my ears, even with my Ear-plugs stuffed in them, (essential), so how that Bloke copes with the sound of that engine with straight-through exhaust pipes, even wearing ear-defenders, I don't know!... A very wide frequency range!......!

...I wonder if it would fit in my Bike?........ ...!
