Last night as the sun dove towards the Pacific, I was fortunate enough to get to the top of our local mountain to try to capture the beauty of a western sunset..........

Here is what I get see all the time..........

But that's what clean, clear, and crisp air is supposed to look like 8-)

Being able to see the air you breathe in the city isn't a good thing... ;D

Beautiful shot Ken, Lets see, you live on a golf course, you have a ski lift very close, the Pacific is not far away, you have beautiful sunsets, snow capped mountains, and great winding roads for a motorcycle. Can you start looking for a retirement house for me. I think I want to move there. Mark  :)

I was totally kidding... I had to find something negative to say 'cuz I'm green with envy... ;D

But it's true- particulates make for some crazy colors, whether it's naturally-occurring dust or man-made pollution... when I lived in Syracuse, which actually has really good air quality, every sunset was a psychedelic riot because of some factory or factories to the west (or so I was told). They're pretty colorful here in Newark, too, as well as the sunrises.

Oh, I know what you mean........I've done your Mt Washington too......all you need is to take a short drive (relatively) and head off to your own beauty......... 8-)

I know you were kidding, but I had to say something about the city air on the east coast... ;D

But you're right about particles in the air. Smoke from wildfires, dust storms, ect can make for some incredible sunsets
