Spent a day at the fleet air arm museum with a German friend, but also took a bit of time to snap the residents....lots and lots of lynxes about, aswell as a few sea kings and the boscombe alpha doing circuits. I never noticed the main gear angle out like that before.  Any ideas why?

I think its to avoid the chopper from instantly rolling forward or backward on landing, i can imagine that might happend if your flying in various weather conditions.

correct, although they have a grappling hook underneath to help with that as well.
It also makes it easier to turn in tight spaces.

yeah, i just noticed that to, it looks like you could turn it within the circle there landing it, must make it easier to turn them all in place to face the wind direction before start-up and take-off.

Its more to do with when its in the hangar of a ship.

That is featured as part of the Black Cats display. Very impressive. Note the Army Lynx has skids.
