Another fine sunday afternoon at 47N

A good day. Left my ailing Tracker at home and borrowed SZ's Mustang (recently featured in the Autos forum) to drive down to the airport. That was fun. ;D

When I got there, the boys were at it already... John was flying with Herb, prepping for his CFI-glider test. Here they go... just about to get airborne.

"Balance it on the wheel... rudder... get that wing up..." No, really, it's fun. ;D

The sky did not look promising, and there was a gusty south wind.

The banner boys were doing their thing... looks like this one will need a little repair. ;D

I was the only ground crew available, so I was busy... but i had the camera ready for Mike dropping the tow rope. My strategy was simple: wait 'til I hear the hook click open. It worked! ;D

I was already rolling the quad over to meet the glider as they landed, so I didn't get a pic of that. But look who I saw earlier- good ol' "Casper"! ;D A few pilots bought it in the wake of the school's demise. Good to see it flying.

A lot of traffic, despite the tricky crosswind... like this local Bird Dog.

While waiting for a Skylane to clear the pump so I could top off the quad's tank, I finally took a closer look at 47N's lone C-140... a very nice one, although I'm not wild about... brown.

A lot of twins come here for the cheapish fuel, like this Baron.

No in-flight pics again; sorry. Really worked my butt off on today's (2) flights- and managed to stay up over an hour on the second, even though we very nearly called it a day after my first because of the wind. I doubt I could have landed properly myself with such wind (as it was we got the rug yanked out from under us at the last moment despite H's expertise), but I did do a pretty good job hunting for and working a few strong but narrow thermals...

HI Sean...sounds like you are having a ball and a great summer.   ;)

Are they towing/launching the banners off a grass strip?  When we see them here they only make a large circle over an area then are off to another location...hardly time to look up and read the thing.

Lots of hot air balloons around this area this year and saw an airship several weeks ago over the hydro lines, probably hired to do inspections of the hydro line.

Have fun flying without an engine of any kind.  ;D

Cheers...Happy Landings...Doug

It turns out I have an excellent photo of the airport, taken by James from a helicopter, looking down Rwy 25... the notes and markings should explain all. ;D
the banner guys do their thing on the grass beyond that earth mound seen in the upper left (SW) corner of the field.

Lovely spot! Different action with those banner-boys. I wonder how they did tear that one banner, doesn't look good at all!

Love the bird-dog!
