Nope, just a everyday storm, my house is surrounded my woods so lighting strikes are a common thing.

The key is  to run between the bolts, and wear a rubber suit

It's easier to take the shots at night because you can use longer exposure settings, I took these in the evening with a 2 sec. exposure so I 60 shots but only 2 with lighting because it was just a push the button and hope for the best sort of deal  ;)                          

very nice. its extremely difficult to get shots of lightning, because as you said, a lot of it is luck, and a very short SHUTTER(thanks for that haha) time. like that of a disposable camera where you push the button and you have a picture
