I was out in the garden playing with the dogs this afternoon when I heard the distinct sound of a low level helicopter. An Aerospatiale AS350 Ecureuil appeared over the lip of our valley. I rushed in to get the camera and missed it on it's first pass down the side of the hill. It returned a couple of minutes later ...... surveying the electricity lines and at no more than 50ft AGL.

Here's the pics.

Cool. My mom would have a heart attackk if she saw anything but a bird fly that low. Last year my friend's dad flew his C-5 really low and slow over the neighborhood, she was screaming and running and I was just thinking: 'What's wrong?'. I was outside with her, but it is funny how people interperate things differently. 8-)

You can thank the media for that.  They portray every event dealing with aviation as a life or death event.  We had an aircraft here do a precautionary evacuation, next thing you know its front page news about the crash at the airport.

Why is an aircraft emergency always considered huge news anyway? How many emergencies a day are actually related to the aircraft and not people being ill(meaning life or death). Come on, how many fatal car accidents are there in a minute...oh there's one...and another. You don't see that on national news every 5 seconds: "This just coming in, we have another fatal car crash. This is expected to be followed by a huge investigation and immediate production stopping of the vehicles only to find that it was a driver error." And then it would have to happen again over and over and over.

Because aviation is scary.  The media love playing off of that scare factor.  The biggest part of it is aviation is unusual for most.  We aren't scared of cars because we get in them everyday.
